The Importance of Comprehensive Eye Exams

When we have eyes that are in good condition, we might forget about the importance of taking preemptive steps such as an eye exam. However, timely diagnosis of any eye or vision problems is necessary to keeping your eyes healthy. This can easily be done with a simple eye test.

A significant number of eye and vision ailments don't have any apparent signs. Consequently, individuals are often unaware that problems exist. Call to schedule a thorough optical exam at our office in Overland Park, KS , where our experienced optometry team provides service suited to the needs of each patient. Our Overland Park office employs the latest technology ensuring a thorough eye exam.

Unfortunately, over than three million Americans suffer from glaucoma, the main cause of blindness but only half of them are aware. Frequently called ''the sneak thief of sight'', glaucoma can strike without any signs. More than half of adults in America fail to use eye glasses or contacts and don't schedule comprehensive eye exams, therefore putting their eyes at greater risk.

To make matters worse, many Americans lack knowledge about the truth about glaucoma. In a recent study, the American Optometric Association found that two-thirds of Americans think glaucoma can be prevented. In truth the sight-stealing disease is unpreventable, though it can be treated if caught in the early stages, which makes early detection even more important. Early detection and treatment are also critical for preventing the damaging outcomes of eye conditions including macular degeneration and cataracts.

Routine eye and vision examinations to screen for eye and vision problems should be on your to-do list. Make sure to set up regular eye exams with your local eye doctor to keep up healthy eyes for years to come.
